About the Thomas Fire Recovery Fund:
The Thomas fire, which started on the evening of December 4th, is the largest in California history. The first phase of the Thomas Fire Artist Recovery Fund was to gather information about the impact the fire had on our creative communities. The second phase of the Thomas Fire Artist Recovery Fund will include a matched fundraising campaign led by the Carolyn Glasoe Bailey Foundation, with a public program of free and ticketed events, as well as a fundraising art exhibition hosted by the Porch Gallery Ojai featuring artworks donated to benefit the Fund. The Carolyn Glasoe Bailey Foundation and Porch Gallery Ojai plan to raise over $30,000 in order to offer unrestricted gifts of $5,000, $2,500 and $500, to these artists, depending on need.

The Porch Gallery has been many things to many people over the years and now it will become a musical instrument! On the week of February 3rd, Andrea Brook aka Sonic Butterfly will be “stringing the Porch” with her own design of long-string harp, Sonic Butterfly, a two octave, chromatic, acoustic harp with 60 foot long strings and projection and/or LED wings. The 60ft strings will span out across the roof of the porch, turning the gallery into an instrument and creating a full sensory experience.

When Andrea heard about The Thomas Fire Artists’ Recovery Exhibition, she immediately contacted Lisa and Heather to offer her support for the artists displaced by the Thomas Fire. Not only is Andrea a resident of Ojai, she lost her Malibu home and studio to a fire in 2007. For Andrea the phoenix from the flames here in Ojai is love and the opportunity to support our community in the ways that we each uniquely can.

Since 2001, Andrea Brook has presented visually and sonically stunning performances, transforming architecture and natural environments into large-scale musical instruments around the world including a cathedral in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, a 9th Century Castle in Italy, the Grand Theater in Shanghai, a temple in Vietnam, Richard Branson’s Necker Island in the BVI, a fort in the Philippines, a city block in Sao Paolo, Brazil, and now the Porch Gallery in Ojai! www.sonicbutterfly.com
