Porch Gallery Ojai presents I Love Trouble: Selected Works by Mick Reinman. To create the body of work, Reinman tapped into the “rich in esoteric imagery and heartfelt emotion” of pulp spaghetti western films. Like Cindy Sherman in her Untitled Film Stills series, Reinman creates a unique body of work that plays with the stereotypes of gender and narrative. His use of cinematic cropping, dramatic scenarios, and archetypal characters all create images that seem familiar and appropriated, but in reality are distinctive creations of his imagination. Painted with Reinman’s signature painterly style, the works in I Love Trouble simultaneously pay homage to, and poke fun at, the hyperbolic masculinity in the genre of western cinema.
