Victoria Pearson and Douglas Tausik Ryder at the Porch Gallery Ojai

Porch Gallery Ojai presents Elemental: Selected Works by Victoria Pearson and Douglas Tausik Ryder. Whether exploring a collection of sticks, a sheep, or in Tasusik Ryder’s case, the female body, both artists use their respective mediums of photography and sculpture to explore the form and intrinsic beauty of their subject matters.

Eschewing flash and studio lights, Pearson relies purely on ambient light to create photographs that capture elegance and uncomplicated beauty. Isolating objects with minimal to zero background information, she removes the context from her subjects and strips them of their banality elevating them into studies of shape and style.

Starting with a computer coded process, Tausik Ryder’s sculptures are at first machine fabricated with an industrial CNC (computer numerical control) machine tool then painstakingly assembled and hand-finished. The combination of technology and hand craftsmanship results in innovative and sensuous  interpretations of natural form, bodies and elements.

Victoria Pearson has built a highly distinguished career as a photographer in Los Angeles, specializing in still life, travel, food and beauty. Her extensive client list includes Williams Sonoma, Neiman Marcus, AT&T, Martha Stewart Living, Food and Wine, Chronicle Books, Microsoft and Pottery Barn. Pearson is based in Ojai, Ca.

Tausik Ryder’s work has been shown previously at Jason Vass, Guild Hall, East Hampton, NY; and the University of Pennsylvania. His pieces are also in noted private collections including that of Tom Ford and Richard Buckley. A native New Yorker, he now resides in Los Angeles, CA and Shelter Island, NY with his wife and daughter
